Happy New Year

A small plastic statue of the Venus de Milo, backlit and glowing

Venus, goddess of Love and Beauty

Welcome to the new year 2012.

An old song by Shriekback might wish you

“Health and knowledge and wealth and power, passion and poems and sex”

Richard Bach has said that the only two real reasons for being here on this planet are to learn and to have fun.

Me, I’d wish you beauty, happiness, and a numinous sense of wonder, regardless of how they appear in your life.

I ended 2011 on a high note, resolving a 3D printer problem that had bugged me since Xmas.

So I celebrated by printing a small statue of Venus, the Roman goddess of Beauty and Love.

At only 80mm tall it is too small to have much detail, and the overhangs below the right arm and under the chin got a bit loopy. But the posture and shape have all the elegance of the original.

So now I have a small, tough, translucent statue of the goddess of beauty to carry around with me for inspiration. How cool is that?
