A very short post. If you know anything about Kickstarter, you’ll know how it has opened up possibilities for creative people to fund the production of their dreams. But kickstarter is limited in the types of activities that it will permit.
Now scientists have their very own crowd-sourced venture-funding system. Need to fund a research trip to that exotic location before it gets buried under a hydroelectric dam? Need money for a high-res camera to explore and document an astronomical feature no-one else has researched? Write a business plan, set your rewards, and find out if anyone else is as excited as you are! Watch them put their money where their heart is.
It is very new, but as with Kickstarter, the possible effects on citizen science if it catches on are huge.
